how to stop home updater, ver 4.x from updating to 5.x

I tried ver 5 of PatchmyPC when notices of it started appearing.  I didn't like it.  As I remember, it was far too automated, wasn't giving options for what apps I wanted to update or not, and wouldn't download without installing. I went back to version 4.

Also, I have read in another thread that ver 5 insists on turning on auto-update for itself whenever installing. And perhaps auto-updating whatever apps it screens?

These actions are unacceptable here. Other than a/v, no app is allowed to auto-update.  Uncontrollable auto-updating gets an app uninstalled. In fact, I have to be suspicious of an app that has to auto-update.

I have liked using ver 4 because it is controllable and does a decent job of finding updates for the apps I use.

How can stop ver 5 from installing itself?

Hi there,

v4 will be deprecated any week now and is no longer maintained.

In v5 we have the exact same feature. You can right click the hamburger icon on any app and choose "Disable Auto Updating" to stop updates for specific apps. Simple as that.

User has to individually go into settings for each app and change to 'no auto update'?

So it an app shows up to update that I didn't think of earlier it will autoupdate before I get to it and turn it off?

there is no way to shut off 'auto update' system wide?

and, will ver5 expect to be running constantly, using up resources to be repeatedly checking for app updates?

Or does it only run if I start it?

Like version 4.x,  can I set ver 5 to simply download the newer versions of all selected apps, to a folder of my choosing, so I can go in when I like to update the apps one at a time, at a time of my choosing?

my memory of ver 5 is that it will download and instantly assault me with update windows for all the apps and delete the updates when done.  I want to keep the newer versions, and install them when convenient for me,  not get a barrage of apps updating.  Or click on an app in ver 5, wait for it to download, and instantly start updating,  then go back to vey 5, click on another app, wait for it to download and instantly start installing, etc, etc.   too much automation for my taste.
