Sort by... any column.

At the moment, we can't change the sort order of the apps.  They sort alphanumerically by their 'Display Name'.
But if we wanted to install a new app, but couldn't quite remember its 'Display Name', but did remember the Publisher, it's difficult to search this now huge list of apps to find the publisher's name, that is otherwise randomly placed in the list of apps.

Could we have the otherwise 'normal' ability to sort by any column we wish?
Yes, the value of sorting by the version number is nearing zero, but someone might find it useful one day!

And when Categories are returned to us, this can easily be dealt with by being able to sort by categories, or display name, or publisher, etc...  With the default always being showing divided up into categories.
This should then suit everyone's needs.
Again, when we only had a 'small' app list, these things weren't so important.  But that's changed now we have the very much expanded list!

I've since realised, that it's actually worse...
If you navigate away from the tab/page, and back again, the column sizes are reset.  :'(

Hi,

I don't see any feature request on the ideas portal for your request. For new features, please submit them on the portal so we can gauge interest from others and see voting. If you could post a new feature request first, then bringing it here to chat with others about the idea would be helpful.

For example, I don't see any feature request containing the word "column" here: https://ideas.patchmypc.com/ideas/search?category=7431601486720841094&query=column

No.

Us users shouldn't have to go to another website, create a whole new set of login credentials, and enter our ideas there... For them to not be see by many users at all, and maybe be voted for by the even smaller subset of users that also did create the additional log-in credentials, as they might have had an idea too, let alone just to vote!
And again, the obvious reminder, only a tiny, tiny fraction of your users even visit the forums to start with!
The voting numbers simply do not give you a representable impression of its popularity, its technical merit, its logical need.  It's just a number.  A effectively useless number.
Especially when you can choose to cast 3 votes, too!?!?!?

This voting system you've invested in simply isn't good.  For us, for you, for PMPC.
Please just restore a standard 'Feature Request' subforum.
Where the effort to submit an idea has the lowest friction possible, which is just a registered user of this forum.  Which happens to be the almost universal standard across the web.  Familiar to all users.

IF any of your users make a feature request, make a suggestion, anywhere, in the forum, in emails, in person...  They should primarily be judge in their technical, logical merit.  And if other users chime in with +1, or their own experiences supporting it, this helps prioritise the feature perhaps... But it should be being done for the right reasons first.
This is what your users are hoping for.

E.g. Should PMPC have installers caching?  Yes.  As this saves bandwidth, data, time, electricity, money, etc.  And makes PMPC stand out from all of the competition.
E.g. Should PMPC have columns that are resizable, that some of are a predefined set size, that show a dividing line that we can grab with the mouse?  Yes, as this is completely standard windows GUI behaviour, and it would aid in displaying the information the best, correct way in the UI.

Voting doesn't always give us what we actually wanted...
It all started with Boaty McBoatface... And there's been a few notable others more recently.

Should we vote to rename it PatchyMcPatchFace -Home Updater?

Clearly, PMPC is not for you.

Rather than harangue in the forums, I've moved on to other solutions.

You should consider other options as well.
