Hello team.

I installed the Home Updater version today but I cannot see how to create the baseline of applications if installing the app on new PCs.
This feature is advertised as being available in the Home Updater version here https://patchmypc.com/product/home-updater: "Create a baseline of applications if installing on new PC's".

Can someone confirm this if feature is available in the Home version? And if yes, how to do it?

Thank you.

Hey there! Thanks for reaching out.

The ability to create a baseline of applications was available in our legacy v4 portable version of the Home Updater. It's not currently available in the new v5 version just yet.

The good news is we're actively working on bringing that feature back into v5, and we're hoping to have it released within the next couple of weeks.

If you'd like to get an email as soon as it's available, feel free to vote up the idea here: https://ideas.patchmypc.com/ideas/PATCHMYPC-I-6000

Appreciate your patience while we work on this!

Thanks, Justin. Appreciate your quick reply and the explanation!

The big issue for us at the moment, the users of your app, long term users of your app, is that the new INSTALLED v5 tracks down and nukes the PORTABLE v4 version.  So we cannot continue using v4, which has all the features we need/want/use.
So we have no way of using v4 until v5 is feature complete, where it actually does everything we expect PatchMyPC to do, that.  No way of having both, in parallel.  Where we use one to get the work done, and the newer one to test the features.

We need to have it working for us.

With installed software, it is normal, most common that installing a new version will overwrite the current one.  We expect this.
It is NOT normal, expected, or wanted that when you install software, that it tracks down and nukes the portable version that we've all been using.

Please remove this 'feature' from v5.
Even if you reach feature-parity with v4, the v5 should not be deleting the portable v4 version.

We do not want it.
You should not have included it.
Don't delete the portable version that actually works.

We agree that v5 should not remove the v4 portable version during install. That behavior wasn't intended to block your workflow, and we understand how frustrating it is to lose access to the version that still has the features you rely on.

We're going to remove that behavior in the next v5 update, so the v4 portable binary will no longer be deleted when v5 is installed. That should let you continue using v4 alongside v5 until we reach full feature parity.

That said, there may come a time when we stop updating the definitions for v4. At that point, we may remove the old binary to avoid giving users a false sense of security that it's still keeping apps updated when it's no longer maintained.

Really appreciate you calling this out and sticking with us while we improve the new version.

Thanks you.

Yeah, we understand that v4 support will stop.

But we're all hoping that this will happen a comfortable amount of time after v5 is at least at feature parity, and has most of the UX issues ironed out.

From a user's point of view, all of these v5 releases should have been a public beta program.  It would have gone down a lot better.

We are making good progress on the baseline/template feature likely a week or two out.
