(15-Jan-2026) Updates of FanControl to V253 have been failing since 12-Jan-2026 when V253 was apparently withdrawn by its developer and replaced with V254. Since the V253 update is no longer available for download, installs or updates of FanControl via Home Updater will continue to fail until the Home Updater App Library catalog is updated with the version and download file for release V254 (or later).

(TL;DR) I had noticed the V254 update listed on majorgeeks.com (https://www.majorgeeks.com) back on 12-Jan-2026 so I was suspicious when Home Updater wanted to update FanControl (portable and non-portable) to V253 later that day. While an update of the Home Updater App Library catalog would eventually resolve the problem, it appears that Home Updater is unable to effortlessly handle this type of failure situation in the interim, particularly for updates of portable editions of affected apps.
As shown in the posted screenshots, my installation of V252 of FanControl Portable is reported as "Outdated" in the My Apps tab. However, when I tried to update it to V253 as recommended, it kept displaying the progress as "CALCULATING" indefinitely, requiring the attempted update to be manually cancelled. (This is different from the failed update of the non-portable app which will terminate as "FAILED" without user intervention.) I also noticed that the cached copy of the previously downloaded V252 .zip file for FanControl Portable had been renamed with the "_Old" suffix and that the App Library tab displayed version "253" of FanControl Portable as "INSTALLED", even though the V253 update could not be downloaded and V252 remained the installed version.
To fix the failure of the non-portable update, I manually downloaded the V254 installer from the developer's GitHub repository and installed the update. That resulted in the version of the non-portable installation being updated to "254" in My Apps after Home Updater rescanned the machine. That approach, however, is not possible for portable apps being managed by Home Updater. This left the My Apps tab displaying the correct installed status: portable ("252" and "Outdated") and non-portable ("254" and "INSTALLED"), while the App Library tab confusingly displays both editions of FanControl as "253" and "INSTALLED". Note that the "253" being displayed here in the App Library tab is the actually the version of the app from the Home Updater App Library catalog , not the version of either the portable or non-portable edition of FanControl "INSTALLED" on the user machine.

I have noticed that the above problem has been resolved with the 17-Jan-2026 update of the App Library catalog which changed the FanControl version from V253 to V254. Home Updater will now detect installations of FanControl V252 as "Outdated" and can update them to V254.
As indicated in my OP, V254 was released on 12-Jan-2026. The apparent inability of the server side to detect that the cancelled V253 download was not available and the delay in updating the catalog with the correct data for V254 should be addressed.
