Hello there,
The current CrystalDiskInfo and CrystalDiskMark versions proposed by PatchMyPC Home (PMPH) contain adwares.
In the "https://patchmypc.com/freeupdater/definitions/definitions.xml" list used by PMPH, you can see this :
<CrystalDiskInfoDownload>https://phoenixnap.dl.sourceforge.net/project/crystaldiskinfo/9.7.0/CrystalDiskInfo9_7_0Ads.exe?viasf=1</CrystalDiskInfoDownload>
<CrystalDiskMarkDownload>https://yer.dl.sourceforge.net/project/crystaldiskmark/9.0.1/CrystalDiskMark9_0_1Ads.exe?viasf=1</CrystalDiskMarkDownload>
Can you see the "Ads.exe" at the end of the files ? It's related to an with-adware version of Crystal tools.
It is:
- documented there: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/is-crystaldiskinfo-still-safe.3882065/
- reported here: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1m197hs/psa_crystaldiskinfo_crystaldiskmark_now_embeds/
Can PMPH propose the adware-free versions of each of Crystal tool ?
Thank you, and keep up the good work !
These are the official installers now, they don't offer no-ads ones anymore:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/crystaldiskinfo/files/9.7.0/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/crystaldiskmark/files/9.0.1/
Thanks Omar but the solution could be not to take the exe version but the .zip version that is adware-free.
Please don't distribute adware through PMPC
The ZIPs of both are already available in the home updater, but they are portables.
According to the latest post of the following thread, it seems there is a now a version provided without adwares:
https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/is-crystaldiskinfo-still-safe.3882065/#post-23517192
Can you update PMPH accordingly ?
Already updated a couple of days ago :)
Bizarre, it's still the "ads.exe" versions in the definitions.xml:
<CrystalDiskInfoName>CrystalDiskInfo</CrystalDiskInfoName>
<CrystalDiskInfoVer>9.7.0</CrystalDiskInfoVer>
<CrystalDiskInfoDownload>https://phoenixnap.dl.sourceforge.net/project/crystaldiskinfo/9.7.0/CrystalDiskInfo9_7_0Ads.exe?viasf=1</CrystalDiskInfoDownload>
<CrystalDiskMarkName>CrystalDiskMark</CrystalDiskMarkName>
<CrystalDiskMarkVer>9.0.1</CrystalDiskMarkVer>
<CrystalDiskMarkDownload>https://yer.dl.sourceforge.net/project/crystaldiskmark/9.0.1/CrystalDiskMark9_0_1Ads.exe?viasf=1</CrystalDiskMarkDownload>
We rarely update v4 now
We released the home updater v5 about 10 months ago, you can download it from here:
https://patchmypc.com/product/home-updater/
In a couple of weeks v4 will auto update to v5 for everyone anyway.
