Hello there,
The current CrystalDiskInfo and CrystalDiskMark versions proposed by PatchMyPC Home (PMPH) contain adwares.
In the "https://patchmypc.com/freeupdater/definitions/definitions.xml" list used by PMPH, you can see this :
<CrystalDiskInfoDownload>https://phoenixnap.dl.sourceforge.net/project/crystaldiskinfo/9.7.0/CrystalDiskInfo9_7_0Ads.exe?viasf=1</CrystalDiskInfoDownload>
<CrystalDiskMarkDownload>https://yer.dl.sourceforge.net/project/crystaldiskmark/9.0.1/CrystalDiskMark9_0_1Ads.exe?viasf=1</CrystalDiskMarkDownload>
Can you see the "Ads.exe" at the end of the files ? It's related to an with-adware version of Crystal tools.
It is:
- documented there: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/is-crystaldiskinfo-still-safe.3882065/
- reported here: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1m197hs/psa_crystaldiskinfo_crystaldiskmark_now_embeds/
Can PMPH propose the adware-free versions of each of Crystal tool ?
Thank you, and keep up the good work !
These are the official installers now, they don't offer no-ads ones anymore:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/crystaldiskinfo/files/9.7.0/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/crystaldiskmark/files/9.0.1/
Thanks Omar but the solution could be not to take the exe version but the .zip version that is adware-free.
Please don't distribute adware through PMPC
The ZIPs of both are already available in the home updater, but they are portables.
