Title: VMware Tools 12.5.1
Post by: swoonhusker on March 28, 2025, 10:48:33 AM
We have VMware Tools turned on in the PMPC publisher for both the ConfigMgr App and the update. After the new version was found on 3/26 we have an updated app in configmgr for VMware Tools 12.5.1, but the update that is under All Software Updates is still version 12.5.0.

I tried republishing the update but that didn't help. Can anyone help me figure out why the configmgr update is not updating to 12.5.1? Is this happening for anyone else?

Thanks for the info and for sharing what you've already tried. A couple things to double-check:

Is it possible the app is deployed as required in ConfigMgr? If so, that could explain why you're seeing version 12.5.1 on the device, even though the update is still showing as 12.5.0. Apps deployed as required will install regardless of the update deployment.

Are you sure the device received the update via ConfigMgr from Patch My PC and not through VMware Tools' own self-updater? Sometimes that can sneak in depending on how things are configured.

If you've already confirmed both of those, we'll likely need to dig into the client-side logs to know exactly what happened during the install and why the update might not be appearing or applying as expected.

You can grab the logs using the steps here: https://patchmypc.com/collecting-log-files-for-patch-my-pc-support

Thank you for the reply Justin, sorry I probably didn't word it the best.

I haven't actually seen the install on a device, I was just going off of what I'm seeing in our SCCM console. Here are screenshots of what I see when I search for the app (does not have deployments) and the update (shows an older version still).

After reading the post at the top of the forums I just created a support case. Thanks

Hello,

I have I think the same issue than swoonhusker. In SCCM Software Updates view I can see only VmWare Tools v 12.5.0 and I don't see VMWare Tools 12.5.1

In wsyncmgr.log I have this message on 8th April and previous days too. Skipped update 572ff806-10c4-4e53-b218-11b14ef87ed2 - VMware Tools 12.5.0.51152 (EXE-x64) because it is up to date.

In PatchMyPC - Publishing Settings, I'm not able to find VMWare Tools update in the list..

Could you please help on this topic ?

For us the issue was caused by doing an in-place OS upgrade on the server that has PMPC. In the publisher we had to go the WSUS options and check the box to add a second product name "Patch My PC". (see attached)

Here is a link that PMPC support sent me that explains more-
