Title: PatchMyPC-HomeUpdater.msi Version 5.0.5.0 won't Install
Post by: btray on December 07, 2024, 12:33:24 PM
Ref: Install file from current web site:  PatchMyPC-HomeUpdater.msi (version 5.0.5.0), Target install systems running Windows 11 Pro 23H2 and 24H2.

After multiple install attempts, even after cleaning out the registry, AppData contents, and all other system drive PatchMyPC references to the previous version 4 PatchMyPC, the installation of the version 5 installer fails with 2 error messages:

Called RunScript when not marked in progress.
Called InstallFinalize when no install in progress.

This is followed by the message, "Patch My PC Home Update setup ended prematurely because of an error.  Your system has not been modified.  To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again."

I have tried this on several Windows 11 Pro systems, all with the same result.  The only system I could get the installation to work on is a Windows 10 Pro 22H2 system.  So, all my Windows 11 systems are stuck on version 4.5.0.4 until I can successfully install version 5.

I am at a loss as to why this is repeatedly failing on my systems.

I was able to fix, so am posting the fix in case others ran across the same issue.  Turns out the first error message pointed to the fix, described in a YouTube video:

I had to enable access for my local PC account in the Windows Temp folder, and that fixed the install issue.  Now, Patch My PC installs!
