Title: Request: Version Tracks (Stable vs Current)
Post by: neoaeon on January 11, 2015, 10:55:28 AM
Basically, a method for picking which version "track" you'd like to be on for particular products.

Java is a big one, Java 8 has superseded 7, but 7 is still offered.  Some users would like to switch to Java 8, others would like to stick with 7.  I'm sure there's others that would like extended support 6.

KeePass is one I have particular interest in.  KeePass 2.x doesn't work on systems that have FIPS mode enabled (http://keepass.info/help/base/faq_tech.html#fips2x (http://keepass.info/help/base/faq_tech.html#fips2x)).  kdbx files (from 2.x series) also have particular issues w/ Cross Platform implementations, (iOS, Blackberry, Android, Linux, OS X). I stay with kdb files, that KeePass 2.x will import but won't natively use.  On PC I continue to use KeePass 1.x series.  Continually PatchMyPC detects 1.28 as out of date (it isn't).  Thankfully w/ 3.002 I can "skip" KeePass and manually maintain 1.x series.

Going through the software offered by PatchMyPC I see some of the following that could benefit from "Version Tracks".

Firefox, ESR (stable) series 31 vs 34 series.
LibreOffice, the "Still" (stable) series is 4.2, the "Fresh" version is 4.3.

I'm sure there's other software in there that could benefit from Version Tracks that I'm not familiar with.

Thanks for the consideration,

Thanks for the suggestion! We will look into this and see what we can do. For Java we offer both products in the updater.
