Topic Title: Info on Updating LibreOffice with Home Updater

[b]Background[/b]: New branches of LibreOffice are released around Feb and Aug of each year and are identified as LibreOffice YY.2 or YY.8, where YY = year of release. A pair of consecutive previous and latest branches are maintained in parallel. The previous branch is more mature and therefore recommended for enterprises and is suitable for all users. The latest branch is recommended for enthusiasts and contains new features and enhancements but may contain a few bugs in its early versions which will be fixed in subsequent bugfix versions. This schedule is peculiar to LibreOffice and described in ref. (1) and (2) below.

[b]What Changed[/b]: On 26-Aug-2026, Branch 26.8 of LibreOffice was released and became the Latest Branch of LibreOffice in the Home Updater App Library. Branch 26.2 which was the former Latest Branch became the new Previous Branch and branch 25.8 which had been the former Previous Branch was retired.

When the new 26.8 branch was released, most LibreOffice installations managed via Home Updater were on Branch 26.2 and version 26.2.5.2 and should have seen no change to their installation. They will continue to get updates to 26.2 (new Previous Branch) as they are released until they decide to switch to 26.8 (new Latest Branch). Branch 25.8 had already stopped receiving updates and was retired and was dropped from the App Library. Users who were still on 25.8 were updated to version 26.2 so they can continue to receive updates through Home Updater.

The new Latest Branch 26.8 initially had no users via Home Updater. Users on 26.2 can replace their current installation with the Latest Branch by simply installing 26.8 from within Home Updater. Note that it is not necessary to uninstall the older branch before updating to a later branch. New installations of LibreOffice via Home Updater can select either the previous branch 26.2 or the latest branch 26.8. It is also possible to downgrade from the latest branch to the previous branch, but this requires uninstalling the latest branch first.

[b]Recommendation[/b]: To accommodate existing users who simply want to be on the latest branch and version without having explicitly manage the transition from previous to latest branch, [b][i]I recommend an additional 'LibreOffice Latest' app be defined in Home Updater[/i][/b] which would update installations to the latest branch as soon as the new branch is released for general availability. (Note: The .0 release of a LibreOffice branch contains alpha, beta, and release candidates (RC). Version 26.8.0.3 is RC3 for Branch 26.8 and considered suitable for general availability.)

[b]Problems Observed[/b]: I initially experienced trouble switching from the existing 26.2 branch to new 26.8 branch in Home Updater 5.4.5.0. Neither the latest LibreOffice app nor its associated Help Pack would install. This was resolved the next day when both 26.8.0.3 and its Help Pack successfully installed but the Home Updater client did not correctly reflect its installed status. However, after another day the status of Help Pack installation was corrected in Home Updater. These corrections occurred without any user intervention so I suspect some related modifications of daily update definitions may have been taking place behind the scene. No documentation or explanation re. how Home Updater handles updates of LibreOffice had been provided.
