I also had a fail on Inkscape and did it manually. Same symptoms as OP.
I assume I had 64 bit originally as I have no reason to change it.

I've just started using Home Updater (used PMP for years). The updates appear to have changed not just the software but associated settings (what would have been in the config files way back when and are now presumably hidden in the Registry).

After the first update run I noticed that:
- the file association for .au3 had changed (to run AutoIt; I had it associated with an editor)
- Chrome lost details of the open tabs (I had to recreate from history, and not even all in one block)
- Firefox lost details of the open tabs (fortunately it had a "restore recent window" option which I found)
- Zoom Workplace won't update (I don't care much about that actually)
- MS Powertoys won't update (I'll wait)

This was not a problem under older PMP. Can you fix it pronto? Because this is a killer for me: I want the apps software updated; I do not want to lose my set up.

I'm waiting to see what else I find.
On the other hand, the new interface is much better looking.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding 32-bit vs. 64-bit, I'm not sure about having the 32-bit version installed before (I think I had 64-bit), but (!) turns out it's reproducible.

Step 0: Remove Inkscape 1.4.2 ("uninstall" button in appwiz.cpl)

Step 1: Install Inkscape 1.4 (64-bit) from https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.4/windows/64-bit/exe/dl/
(inkscape-1.4_2024-10-11_86a8ad7-x64.exe)

Step 2: Install Inkscape 1.4.2 from https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.4.2/windows/64-bit/msi/dl/ (inkscape-1.4.2_2025-05-08_ebf0e94-x64.msi)

Looking at the installer extension (.msi vs. .exe), that may be the cause? In both cases I selected the default installer provided by inkscape.org.

Yeah, that seems to be the default behavior for the installer.

if you use that pre-script I mentioned, you can do something like the below for the parameters:

-DisplayName \"R for Windows*\" -VersionLessThan \"%Version%\" -UninstallAll

This will search for all 'R for windows*' installs. And the Version will dynamically change to the current version of the latest update and remove any LessThan.

I'll double check, but I'm pretty sure this is expected behavior by the vendor. Kinda like Python where you may want multiple versions to run specific items.

If you do want to remove pervious versions, you can add our 'Uninstall-Software.ps1' script as a Pre-Script to remove them: https://github.com/PatchMyPCTeam/Community-Scripts/tree/main/Uninstall/Pre-Uninstall/Uninstall-Software

"Windows for R" was recently updated to version 4.5.2, but it left behind version 4.5.1. So now there are two versions of R installed.

Is it possible to make future updates remove older updates?

Hi John,

Could you please follow this process to attach a diagnostic file https://forum.patchmypc.com/index.php/topic,8732.0.html

That's interesting it's requiring a manual uninstall. Curious if you currently have the 32-bit version installed? Maybe that's why it wants a manual uninstall since we would default to the 64-bit

I just remembered to check Task Scheduler to see when Patch My PC - Self Updater kicks off. I saw that it's scheduled to start at 7 pm daily, with no repeat.

My PC is scheduled to wake-up from hibernation also at 7 pm, so I'm thinking that explains why Patch My PC doesn't self update on that PC - it's not quite awake when the self updater kicks off. So I've changed my PC's wake-up time to 6:45 pm daily and will wait to see if that resolves it.

I just noticed that there was a new update (ver. 5.4.0.0), which I installed via the About page. The latest version was updated automatically on my laptop, but did not update automatically on my desktop.

I've checked the settings window, but didn't see where I could enable or disable automatic updating.

Why would Patch My PC update itself automatically on one PC but not on another PC, even though both are configured with identical settings?

See attached diagnostic file.
