PatchmyPC pops up twice after booting, or awaking from sleep

There is a very frustrating bug on the latest version of Patch My PC Portable v5.3.0.0.

The app will run itself 2x after awakening or booting.  It will pop up.  Disappear after a few seconds.  And then pop up a second time.  And then disappear by itself.

It is infuriating.  I cannot remove it from my system now.  If I delete the only copy of the executable I can see, it still pops up.

These entries in the log document what is happening.  They occur completely without my intervention:
